Dr. Gina Johnson-Higgins DMD, FAACA
Dr. Gina Johnson-Higgins DMD, FAACA is a general dentist who thinks her patients deserve the finest care and compassion in a modern and comfortable setting.
She graduated from Morehead State University with Bachelor of Science and Arts degrees in Biology, Psychology, and Chemistry. Dr. Higgins then attended the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry where she graduated "Top Ten" while starting her family.
She is committed to bringing every one of her patients to total health through outstanding oral care. Dr. Higgins strives to educate every patient with the knowledge that their oral health directly impacts their overall health.
To achieve the highest level of comfort for her anxious patients, Dr. Higgins obtained credentialing with the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS). She felt compelled to further her education on sedation and attended a post-doctoral "mini-residency" at the University of Kentucky to obtain her license to provide IV sedation for her patients.
She is also a founding member of Lexington's premier dental study group through the acclaimed Spear Institute. Along with her team, she spends many hours each year attending continuing education to provide the most up-to-date care.
Dr. Higgins has been in private practice here in Lexington since 1999. She is a member of the Bluegrass Dental Society, the Kentucky Dental Association and the American Dental Association. She also serves on the board of The American Academy of Clear Aligners and is a Gold Member provider with Invisalign.
She has achieved Fellowship accreditation with the AACA which is the highest level of recognition for experience, knowledge, and talent that a general dentist can achieve in the field of Clear Aligner Therapy. There are 171,000 dentists trained to offer Invisalign, only 11,000 do more than a case a month and less than 100 have achieved Fellowship.
Being discerning is difficult in dental technology so Dr. Higgins began the digital transition with the iTero Digital scanners. They allow the team to look for cavities with reflected light (NIRI) and have Invisalign, crowns and biteguards made with no messy impressions!
As the “Covid Shutdown” ended Dr. Higgins was chosen to study with the premier general practice provider of the world, Dr. David Galler. Attending his training has allowed Dr. Gina and her team to provide Accelerated Adult Ortho for many adult patients! It improves your long-term health to have your teeth in the right place! After attending Dr. Galler’s Reingage course in the summer of 2020, Dr. Gina was invited to join the National Executive Board of The American Academy of Clear Aligners. She was then honored further by being granted permission to start a Lexington Chapter of the AACA Study Club to educate other dentists in providing Accelerated Invisalign for their patients.
In her spare time Dr. Higgins enjoys spending time with her husband, Greg Higgins, owner of the renowned Magee's Bakery and with her daughter, Shelby.

Morgan, Melani and Amber will be assisting Dr. Higgins in any treatment you may need. All have had extensive training in different aspects of dental assisting. They have each completed the requirements to be certified by the Kentucky Board of Dentistry as Expanded Duties Dental Assistants, which means they are able to assist Dr. Higgins on a much higher level.

Sarabeth, Jennifer and Mary will be cleaning and caring for your teeth at your 6 month oral health visits. They will take any x-rays that you are routinely due for, or to isolate a problem that you may be experiencing. They will use an intra-oral camera to give you a “tour” of your mouth using photos. They will give you an in-depth explanation about how your mouth is affecting your entire body. You will find that they are very patient conscious and have your comfort and concerns in mind at all times. They provide gentle, yet thorough cleanings while being attentive to any areas or your mouth that may be sensitive. They have received their degrees in Dental Hygiene from Lexington Community College and are also certified by the Kentucky Board of Dentistry to perform local anesthesia. They also have a special certification that allows them to treat patients if Dr. Higgins is not available to be in the office.

Katrina is our Office Manager. She oversees the daily operations of the office so that every part of your dental experience exceeds your expectations. She is always prepared to answer any questions or assist patients in any way possible.
Shelby is our Patient Coordinator. She is most likely the first person you will speak with on the phone. Shelby is very friendly and always eager to meet your needs. She does an excellent job managing our schedule and will find an appointment time that suits your busy life.
Laurie is our Treatment Coordinator. Her focus is helping patients understand their necessary treatment. She assists patients with insurance questions and estimates. Laurie makes sure our patients receive the best and most up-to-date information.
